Mayk's Photo.Art is an artist-run online gallery featuring fine art photography from Ukraine. It founded by Andrii Maykovskyi, a Ukrainian travel art photographer based in Chernihiv.
As an online gallery, we have a dream. There are a lot of established or emerging art photographers in Ukraine who create talented artworks but don’t see the possibilities to reach the art collectors. So in our online gallery, we strive to present contemporary art photographers from Ukraine to collectors worldwide. If you would support us, we will have the possibility to feature such talented photographers, present their artworks to you, and make the dream come true.
You can order limited / open edition prints in the gallery that printed and fulfilled by theprintspace (London, UK). You support the cultivation of fine art photography in Ukraine if collecting our art photography prints!
Andrii Maykovskyi is a Ukrainian travel art photographer based in Chernihiv, a member of the art association 'Kievphotos-Hall 2012', an associate of the National Union of Photo Artists of Ukraine.
Andrii photographs landscapes, architecture, destinations, nature with a passion to find and to convey the soul of the subject matter. To explore what is beyond a 'flat image' is his exciting artist journey. He tries to study how artistry emerges at the point where subject matter meets the photographer’s eye, photography techniques, and software post-production.
Andrii thinks that software post-production is as important in digital photography art as the darkroom operations in the film photography era. He developed a unique photo post-production studio based on the free hobbyist-driven Haiku operation system and free post-production software. Unique and crafted tools make it a great pleasure for him to create original artworks.
Tugboat Of The Past
'I started to photograph 7-8 years old when my father has presented the very old Zeiss compact medium format camera to me. The camera was simple and has only 2 controls. The picturesque landscapes of enchanting Desna river flowing in my native land and forests and grasslands around it became the first subject matter inspiring me. It was just magic to make a shot and to see an image later in the darkroom, an image that is under control of your feelings. Some 2 years later this Zeiss became too simple for me and I shot with father's Praktika SLR 35mm camera already.'
Only a few films survived from that early time. They were cheap Soviet films of low quality and many shots on them have strong childish technical flaws. But one shot was found on these films good enough to make a quality modern print.
This one early shot demonstrating lazy Desna river with small tugboat is very dear for us. So we want to share these emotions of old times and you can order this early shot taken more than 30 years ago as exclusive limited edition print in 2 sizes.
